Focus Forward films promotes creative filmmakers whose work emphasizes innovations that make this world a better place. This year, Focus Forward presented a contest to filmmakers from all over the world to submit a film which focused on innovations such as environmental, social, and health issues to name a few. With a cash prize of $100,000 for the Grand Jury Prize and $50,000 for the second prize, Focus Forward didn't have a shortage of films from which to choose.
Jared P. Scott and Kelly Nyks, filmmakers of THE ARTIFICIAL LEAF, received second prize. Their topic could possibly save our world by utilizing a resource that is never-ending: the sun. Dan Nocera has developed an "artificial leaf" to do just that. By imitating the process that a leaf uses to produce energy, we can replicate the process of photosynthesis and "power our world with sunlight." Utilization of such common components such as a glass of water, sunlight, and inexpensive metals, we could potentially create clean energy. The film goes on to explain both visually and verbally, how the process works.
This 3 minute documentary educated and inspired me to learn more. It also made me aware that there are viable solutions to this crisis we are experiencing in our country. Take 3 minutes out of your day to empower yourself with knowledge.
